my movie buzzz!!!!!
आम्हाला कळवा तुमचे विचार,marathi movie कडून असणाऱ्या तुमचा अपेक्षा,आम्ही नक्कीच प्रसिद्धी देऊ तुमच्या मतांना,आणि पोचवू ती आपल्या सिनेमावाल्यान पर्यंत now send your views to [email protected], best review will get exiting rewards!! |

Why I don't watch Marathi MoviesSpilled Beans by Divyank Arur
I was born and bred in Pune, which is supposedly the epicentre for Marathi culture. Well, naturally, the first words I spoke were in Marathi; hence the immense love and respect that I have for everything Marathi. Despite all this, during my 20 years, I have seen only one Marathi film in a movie theatre. And I won’t be surprised if you are not surprised because the urban Marathi youth share the same predicament. I was amazed at my complete neglect regarding Marathi cinema, after deep introspection I now know the reasons I do not watch Marathi films.
1. When? What? Where?
When an English film releases, I know about it. When a hindi film releases, I know about it (even if it’s a HimeshReshammiya film). When a Marathi film releases, only the filmmakers know about it. I mean really, you put up a few banners in the city, print an ad in the local newspaper and you expect the response to be overwhelming. There might be a few ads on Marathi channels as well, but honestly, no one and I mean no one my age sits on the couch with some snacks to enjoy the twists of household Marathi drama. And so the entire publicity plan is flushed (except for a few floaters, pun intended). If I have never heard of a film, I will not watch it. Period
To target the youth, target their turf, like mazzacinema.com, this works.
2. Slapstick? Thanks but no thanks.
The few comedy Marathi films I have had the pleasure to see at home have done one thing and one thing only, thoroughly insulted my intelligence throughfarce. Slapstick humour is good, but when you overdo it, the audience wants to really slap you or maybe shove a stick in you if they had the opportunity. I think it’s high time the filmmakers started treating the audience like intelligent beings. I would prefer watching “Scary Movie” over “IdeachiKalpana”. The era of senseless humour is over; the urban audience don’t want to be treated like toddlers. Everyone tries to be Ashok Saraaf, sorry to disappoint, but it doesn’t work that way.
Grow up and let the jokes be actually funny.
3. Kurosava = Kulkarni? No!
Now I know Marathi like the back of my hand. Japanese sounds alien to me but I have seen more Japanese films than Marathi ones. The reason is legends like Mr Kurosava or Godard in French Cinema. No Marathi director has been able to achieve that kind of respect or appreciation. Now I am not discrediting Marathi directors at all but if your excuse for mediocrity is having a regional language as a medium, it is a very sorry excuse. Maharashtra alone is more populated than France, how is that for statistics? The good Marathi directors need to strive for legendary status which I believe is very possible to achieve.
Go beyond boundaries, explore.
4. Variety, spice of life.
Most Marathi films are either comedy or related to some kind of a social issue. People get tired of it over time. I mean it’s good to have a moral to a story and everything but we read enough Fables as kids. I don’t want to pay good money to get a lesson in how “Honesty is the best policy”. There is so much that can be done with the visual medium, where are the thrillers, the Sci-Fi’s, the horrors, the animations, the abstract films? Is Marathi cinema not capable of putting more on our plate? Of course it is, the filmmakers just need to have a little more faith in the audience and more importantly, themselves.
How long will you play safe for? Give us something new.
5. The One I saw.
After pointing out what is wrong with Marathi films with such righteousness, I think I should also talk about the aforementioned one film I saw. The film was called Natrang. Now there were several factors which led to my paying money for the ticket. I knew about the film weeks before its release. Good Publicity. It was not a comedy, and through word of mouth I learned it wasn’t about morals either. The story wasn’t run of the mill. And even after several people telling me that I should not miss this film, it took me three weeks of persuasion to go watch it. And I did not regret it.
Now I hope that the reasons for my failure to watch Marathi films are eliminated as soon as possible because I would really love to be proud of a few more Marathi films.

I would like to watch this song in a Marathi Movie by Malvika Kulur
This is a backstreet boys number and i would like to see a song like this in marathi movies as it is a very soulful song. The video has a lot of meaning to it and it relates to a lot of the youth and their thinking. This song is apt for showing sad scenes or breakup scenes or even just lonely scenes. All in all this song is for those youths who are going through a transition phase in their life an dit expresses this phase in a very subtle and classy way without being to harsh to understand. The link to the song is as follows: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-lPaNdGlG7Q
Thank you,
Malvika Kulur
